Theoretical basis of bacterial genome modification techniques, with particular reference to techniques based on homologous recombination, the use of group II mobile introns, the CRISPR-Cas system, gene silencing. Main uses of microorganisms in the different fields of biotechnology. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:Knowing the importance and role of microorganisms in biotechnology. Understand the specific terms and language of this discipline. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:Evaluate the elective technique for the gene modification of a given microorganism and the characteristics of a microorganism in relation to its applicability in the biotechnology field MAKING JUDGEMENTS:application of genetic engineering techniques in order to produce microorganisms useful for biotechnologies COMMUNICATION SKILLS:Discussion of bacterial genome manipulation techniques and biotechnological applications LEARNING SKILLS:Ability to understand the rationale on the use and genetic modification of microbes for biotechnology
