General Information:

  • Department: Scienze Matematiche, Fisiche E Naturali
  • Settore Ministeriale: MED/04
  • ID code: 8067481
  • Teaching methods: Frontale
  • Assessment methods: Orale
  • Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of cellular biology and optical physics
  • Objectives: LEARNING OUTCOMES: Knowing what flow cytometry is and its potential in multiparametric studies at the single particle (cell) level. Knowing the fields of application in the biotechnological, biological, biomedical and environmental fields Knowing the strengths and limitations of this technology compared with other methods KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: The Flow Cytometry course provides students with a wealth of theoretical and operational skills that enables them to understand the principles of this technology and to learn about the available instrumentation, methodology of preparation and analysis of cytometric samples, with numerous practical examples taken from the different fields of application of biotechnologies. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: The student will acquire the ability to assess which methodological and instrumental cytometric approach is more appropriate for the resolution of the experimental problem of study or analysis of samples of different types, considering limits and strengths of the various available technologies. A specific strength will be the ability to integrate considerations on aspects related to the characteristics of the instruments, of chemical-physical nature of the reagents, of the type of matrix (tissues, cell suspension, food, environmental matrices ...) and of biological type (types of marker, level of expression, ...).
