  • Objectives: LEARNING OUTCOMES: The aim of the course is to elucidate the impact of the most recent and worth noting molecular studies and technologies, with special regard to ancient DNA, on the reconstruction of human evolutionary and biological history and the critical interpretation of evolutionary and adaptive mechanisms involved in the appearance and development of our species. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: Acquisition of experimental methods in molecular anthropology and of theoretical competence to design specific experimental procedures, and of operational skills for the research and advanced comprehension of human biological evolution processes and phenomena. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: Acquisition of capabilities to deal with experimental problems in molecular anthropology with the adeguate cognitive tools. Achievement of practical skills at methodological and technological levels to be applied in molecular anthropology and ancient DNA studies. MAKING JUDGEMENTS: Development of skills in molecular anthropology and palaeogenomics fields to independently perform scientific experiments and consciously interpret experimental data. To be able to carry out bibliographic researches and to critically select proper information, especially on the web. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: To be able to organize, efficently present, also at graphical level, and transfer acquired knowledge and the more recent discovery in the field of molecular anthropology either in written or in oral forms, possibly in English. These skills are acquired through seminars on specific anthropological topics presented by the students and any question or clarification requested. LEARNING SKILLS: Capacity to learn and independently and continuously update in the molecular anthopological field from various sources, also in English, with particular attention to critical consulation of bibliography, database and other information on the web.
