  • Objectives: LEARNING OUTCOMES: The students of the Ecology and ecotoxicology course must develop: -the knowledge of biological systems in their entirety, with particular attention to the systemic view; -the cultural and experimental bases of the ecological and ecotoxicological approach; -the ability to utilize this approach in applying biotechnology (biotechnologists for the environment). KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: Students must demonstrate to know and understand both the functionality of natural systems at a higher level - studied on university-level textbooks and scientific journals - and the most recent issues concerning environmental alterations and possible managing and restoration interventions on the environmental compartments - studied on scientific journals. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: Students must be able to professionally apply their knowledge and understanding, in order to be able to design and discuss conceptual and experimental biotechnological approaches for environmental managing and protection. MAKING JUDGEMENTS: Students have learned to collect and interpret ecological and ecotoxicological data, useful for preparing and discussing environmental interventions of different types and entities. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Students must be able to communicate to interlocutors of different level, from specialists to non-specialists, environmental problems and solutions to safeguard and/or restore the environment, using a scientifically appropriate and clear language. LEARNING ABILITY: Students must have developed a learning ability that allows them to undertake subsequent biotechnology studies applied to the environmental issues, with a high degree of autonomy.
