  • Prerequisites: good knowledge of Greek and Latin. Knowledge of the method of textual criticism, acquaintance with critical editions of classical texts.
  • Objectives: The course provides students with an in-depth knowledge of the method of textual criticism and of the editorial process that leads from the deciphering of manuscript witnesses to the realization of a critical edition, going from the literary texts of classical Greek and Latin authors to the non-standard texts of Byzantine lexicography. Students will also acquire a good knowledge of the history of nineteenth- and twentieth-century reflection on Lachmann's method, and will deepen the topic envisaged in the syllabus. At the end of the course, the student will have acquired a basic knowledge of the application of computer tools for textual criticism.
