  • Prerequisites: Essential prerequisites are the knowledge of cinema history and the basic concepts of photography and video/film technology. For an effective comprehension, it is also important to have basic notions of archival science, art restoration theory and conservation of cultural heritage.
  • Objectives: Objectives of the course are the following: to acquire awareness of the value of the cinematographic heritage in the framework of the wider field of cultural heritage; to become familiar with the material culture of cinema, considering its technological diachronic development and the fruition by the audiences in time; to know the institutions, the environments and the methods dedicated to the conservation, preservation and restoration of cinematographic heritage; to become familiar with the processes and the operational decisions of a film restoration project; to acquire a sense of appraisal and judgement about a film restoration project; to acquire ability in evaluating the possibilities of enhancement of a film restoration project in several different fields (such as film festivals, academic research, publishing industry, teaching, and so on).
