  • Objectives: LEARNING OUTCOMES: The course aims to provide students with the tools of both method and content for an understanding of the origins, development and specific features of Western scientific thought. Students will learn to identify authors and texts, to establish meaningful connections between different periods and orientations,and to understand the peculiarities of Western thought . KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: At the end of the course students will be able to identify, read and understand autonomously the main sources of ancient science, with particular reference to medicine, and will have understood the features of Western scientific method in its initial phase. They will also have acquired basic knowledge concerning the development of ancient medicine in its interweaving with philosophy. Students will be able to orient themselves autonomously in the complexity of ancient scientific thought and to communicate the acquired knowledge.
