  • Prerequisites: Knowledge of ancient Greek and Latin language is not required.
  • Objectives: The aim of the course is to provide students with a general overview of the basic themes and issues in ancient theater, in order to understand characters, genres, texts and monuments of greek and roman theater from a correct historical and philological perspective. Students will be provided of historical and social knowledge of the context of the naissance and development of ancient theater. They will also learn the specificities of ancient drama: as texts, as poetic works, as performances. Also through the knowledge of basic theoretical tools, students will be able to analize and to understand ancient drama, to solve simple problems of interpretation, to orient in bibliographical research.
