  • Objectives: LEARNING GOALS: Upon completion of the course, the student should have acquired a thorough knowledge of ancient Greek history from the Neolithic age to the death of Alexander the Great (323 B.C.) and the formation of the Hellenistic kingdoms (4th-3rd centuries B.C.). He/she should also have acquired a good knowledge of ancient Greek historiography from Hecataeus of Miletus (6th century BC) to the late imperial age. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING SKILLS: Acquisition of the basic principles of historical and historiographical research. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: Ability to place the texts proposed in class in their historical and cultural context. AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT: Ability to reflect independently on the political and cultural dynamics of historical events. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to persuasively communicate acquired knowledge. LEARNING SKILLS: Ability to critically study the ancient and modern historical texts.
